November Update

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 8, 2009, 7:37 AM
Things have been very busy for me lately. Started a new job at the end of September so my schedule is pretty full after being off work for a month and a half.

Gregg and I finally finshed the book. Here's a shameless promotion for it:

[link]

I have a show coming up in January at a gallery here on Capitol Hill, Studio H Gallery. It's a new gallery that opened last month so it should be fun. I'll be showing a lot of the work I've done
with :icongfriedberg: and :iconvishstudio:

So I've been ordering prints and getting them framed now so there won't be a huge last minute rush.

I've been very lax at answering messages here and I apologize for that. But I do want everyone to know that the :+fav:s and work collected, as well as your gallery visits are all very much appreciated! I don't know when I'll get around to thanking everyone individually, but I will. Promise!

If I don't get back to doing another journal entry soon, to everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving, I hope it's a great day for you!

And if you don't, I hope it's a great day for you too!

Peace.

Geoff

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 10, 2009, 10:08 AM
It's been a crazy time in my life, was off work between contracts for 6 weeks. Now I'm back at work with a much shorter commute, better office space and less time for dA than I've had previously.
That 6 weeks was busy with lots going on in my own little corner of the art world.

Gregg and I are still working on the book, who know's when it will finally get finished but I'm hoping soon. Problem is that he keeps sending me more pictures and I keep doing more manipulations! I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong!

I went to Richmond, VA for the "Colors of Life" opening on Sept 25th. It was a great show and I was very happy to be a part of it. It runs through October and then goes to Milan for the last gallery show. I was really happy that my picture sold and will be hanging in a private collection in Switzerland! The curator of the show is an amazing woman that I am happy to have met.

The next morning I hung a show at the Park Cafe here in DC. That evening was a closing party for the show at Capitol Hill Art & Frame and then an opening party in Vienna, VA for the "12 Angry Women" show that I was juried into. Then on Sunday there was the opening reception for the Park Cafe show. Through all of this I was working with the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop to get their annual fundraiser together and hang the work for the silent auction.

It was almost restful going back to work!

In the next week or so I hope to be able to reply to all the messages I have here at dA. In the meanwhile, I do want to thank all the people who have favorited my work, collected it and sent messages. I promise I'll get back to you all and if you get more than one message thanking you, please forgive me! And no need to reply back with the 'welcome' messages, just know I appreciate all of you!

On the other side of things, isn't it great to have a Nobel Peace Prize winner for our President? There's a lot of criticism about it from the right because they don't know what hope means to so many, many people. And that's sad.

TRANSFORMED

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 22, 2009, 6:19 AM
Over a month since my last journal entry! Summer is almost gone and I'm still wondering where it went.

Waiting to hear about entries into a couple of shows and anxious to know if I got in or was rejected.

My job was cut last week due to budget cuts by the company I contracted with. They cut the salaries of everyone making over $50k by 2% and laid off about 20 people from the contract. This after announcing 'record breaking' profit in FY 09. Go figure.

But, I have work on another contract that starts at the end of September, so life is good. Also will have a shorter commute as well as a nice increase, so that cloud had a silver lining!

I'm working with Gregg Friedberg :icongfriedberg: on a book that will display his original photographs and my manipulations of them. We're both pretty excited about this collaboration and although it will just be a self-published book using mypublisher.com, it it looks good, who knows?

If you've been watching me, you'll know his beautiful photos and the results of manipulating them. I'm certainly not the only one to appreciate his work, other deviants have used them as well.

Here's some of the photos and the resulting manipulations.

I want to again than Gregg for allowing me to use his photos and hope to get the book done in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks to all who watch my gallery and thanks for all the faves (which I have let slip without reply but will get to soon!)

So, here are the photos and manips. We're calling the book "Transformed" or at least that's the title for now!

Peace, love and healthcare to all.

PS Barney Frank is my hero!!

Thanks to all who have visited my gallery, and thanks for all the faves!

Baker's Dozen

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 17, 2009, 6:33 AM
I just realized I haven't done a journal update in a loooonnnnng time.

Let's see, what's new?

Artomatic here in DC ended on July 5th after a month long run and over 70,000 visitors! It was a good experience, I sold two pictures, was included in a local art critic's blog who said I had the best male nudes at Artomatic! So now I have all my other work lining the walls on the floor here at home. I sold these two and which were based on photos by :iconvishstudio:, one of my favorite photogs here on dA.

Am currently in a juried show at Gallery West in Alexandria, VA. This picure got in a show called "the power of color" so that was cool.

Busy curating shows at two venues, a frame shop here on Capitol Hill (Capitol Hill Art & Frame) and at Park Cafe, also here on the Hill. That keeps me pretty busy. Also put together a show at the Corner Store Gallery, another Hill venue. This was a show of work by people who won awards during the Capitol Hill Art League's last season.

Have been playing with the new portfolio site here on dA, still have some minor tweaks to work out but I think it's a great idea and have to say thanks to dA for putting it together.

Anyhow, tomorrow is my birthday, although I would rather ignore it my friends won't allow that. I'm just happy to be another year older and considering the alternative, prefer having one every year!

Here are some random favorites. Please check out their galleries, you are sure to find favorites too!

Thanks to all who fave my work and give me encouragement to continue! Also another shout to :icongfriedberg: and :iconvishstudio: for allowing me to use their beautiful photos.

Love and peace to all!

Geoff

Time to update my journal again.

Journal Entry: Sun May 31, 2009, 7:48 AM
It's been almost a month since my last entry so I decided to take time today.
My PC died, bad sector in the hard drive so I am reduced to using my laptop and can't do much work on it since I don't have many peripherals hooked up. And it doesn't have the power and speed of my pc. However, it's better than nothing and I have my files backed up on an external drive (thank God!)

So what's new?

Well I entered a photoshow, "Colors For Life" and got in! It opens in Richmond, Va in July and then the show goes to Milan and will run through sometime in December. Here's a link to the website: [link] click on photocontest and then 2009 finalists. Definitely means a roadtrip to Richmond, and maybe save up enough $$ for a trip to Milan.

Here in DC, Artomatic opened Friday with a huge party. This is an annual event here. The organizers find an empty building and over 900 artists fill the walls. It's loads of fun and all free to visitors. Here's a link that tells all about it. [link]

Here's a link to my profile showing the work I'm showing. They are all photo-manipulations of work by :iconvishstudio: who's work I use very often. If you watch me, you prolly know that and know his work.

I'll post a picture of my wall and as I visit the show I'll post pictures of some of my favorites, probably on facebook. It takes several trips down there since it's nine floors of art, music, dance, film, lectures, workshops and even a tatoo parlor. (Really tempted to get one this year - but would do better to save the money for a trip to Milan LOL)

Hope everyone is enjoying the last of Spring and the beginning of summer!

I'll leave with a few of my favorites. I have so many that I'm always afraid I will post them more than once, but I guess that's a good thing!
